Meet Bianca - our new editor!

10th Jul 2017

Last month we had the pleasure of welcoming a new member to the Knew Productions team. Introducing...Bianca Smith, our new video editor! Bianca is now working full time in the Knew Productions studio and has already got stuck into quite a few projects. She has recently graduated from Salford University with a 1st Class BA (Hons) degree in Television and Radio and prior to this she studied Film at Stirling University in Scotland. At the end of her course in Salford, Bianca won the University BAFTAR award for ‘Best Editing’, you can see her winning piece here.

Bianca has moved from Manchester to Chester so is having to find her way around a new city as well as a new job, though being the chilled, relaxed person that she is, this has been taken easily in her stride! So, apart from being a super, new, creative editor, what else do we know about Bianca?! Here are some fun facts:

What is your favourite film and why?

Greencard - written, directed and produced by Peter Weir. This is such a good film, its so well put together, the editing is brilliant - and I love the storyline as well!

What was your favourite TV show when growing up?

Charmed - I was a very ‘girly girl’ and absolutely loved this - I had all the box sets in pretty charmed cases!

What made you choose video production as a course of study/career?

When I left school I thought I wanted to get into advertising - I wanted to create things, tell a story. I wanted to be involved in making the stuff you see on the screen, not so much the filming side but the story or information - the bit that influences people. During Uni, I found  that its the editing that really does this. Getting good shots and pictures is crucial but its how they are put together that tells the story. Editing is definitely the part for me!

What inspires you?

Well, I’m a very determined person and I get very focussed on what I want to do, which inspires me to work hard and achieve things. Other than that, I’d say, my Mum - she sets a great example. I’m one of six and she’s brought us up while juggling college and a teaching job. She’s very principled and just manages to be ‘superwoman’, she’s an inspiration!

Whats the nerdiest thing you do in your spare time?

Whats your favourite food?

Chinese - I love tofu bean curd.

Have you any phobias?

Bees, wasps, anything that flies about, buzzing with a sting!

Tell us 3 things on your bucket list!

Travel has to be one, I’d love to go to Venice, such a beautiful place. Number 2 would be to become a famous editor! Last one would be to become expert at yoga.

Whats your secret guilty pleasure?!

That has to be listening to embarrassing, cheesy music - I know its bad, but I do just like a bit of Miley Cirus or Justin Bieber!!

If you could have any one superpower what would you choose?

Being able to fly would be good - and would help with the ‘travel’ on my bucket list!  Telekinesis would be useful too, like in ‘Charmed’ (being able to move things by mind power) though it might make me a bit lazy!
