On the last day of February, with the overcast sky heavy with snow, Richard and I braved the elements and boarded a train to London on a Knew Productions trip to the BVE conference! The Broadcast and Video Exhibition is held annually, essentially it is a giant trade show hosted in the heart of London at the ExCel.
The trip was a great experience for me as well as an opportunity to get out of the editing room. Here I pitched up a seat at the Post Production FCPX stand, hosted by Soho Editors, and watched from the front row as many trained professionals demonstrated FCPX 10.4 new capabilities from Advance colour correction, with the re-introduction of colour wheels (a common and beloved feature of the old FCP), to HDR and 360 editing and workflows. Amongst other things a demonstration of Apple’s latest iMac Pro features was particularly impressive at this seminar. While HDR and 360 editing does not apply to Knew Productions just yet, it was interesting to see the potential that FCPX has as such a powerful non-linear editing software! And it is certainly interesting to think about what it can do and what I will be able to do with it in the future.
Of course it wasn’t all work for the Knew Crew! We managed to check out some of the hot spots of London including my favourite places on the classic Monopoly board - Leicester Square to Trafalgar Square! We saw a little of Covent Garden as we went from bar to bar taking in the London night scene before finally getting back to our hotel…exhausted!
It’s really interesting to put some of the new tips and tricks into practice now that I’m back in the edit suite in Rossett and its great to feel up to date and at the cutting edge of whats new in the editing world. Our trip to BVE London was an experience in both culture and learning and I can’t wait to go again next year!
